What is FlipLetters?
A web app for making split-flap and flip-dot animation videos. Type text or upload an image, pick a board style and a flip transition, and export an MP4 with synthesized mechanical click sound synced to the animation.
Is the click sound a real recording?
No — every click is synthesized from scratch to match the timing and tone of real split-flap and flip-dot boards, not sampled from any physical board. That means FlipLetters owns every sound it ships, and you can tune softness and speed per project.
What board styles are available?
Six today: a Solari-style station board, big minimal flap letters, a color-flap art board (good for pixel art), a flip-dot dot-matrix board, a small desk marquee, and a framed announcement board for milestones and arrivals.
What video formats can I export?
Landscape 1080p or 4K for YouTube, vertical 1080×1920 for reels/shorts/TikTok, or square 1080×1080 for feeds.
How much does it cost?
Exporting is free and unlimited — every board style and format, with the FlipLetters wordmark in the corner. To export without it: $8.99/month Premium (300 exports or 100 hours per month, whichever comes first), or $29.99/month Studio (1000 exports or 300 hours/month, hours-long videos, your own audio track, and TikTok posting). Why is there a logo on my video?
Free exports carry a small FlipLetters wordmark in the corner — that's the trade for unlimited free exports. A Premium or Studio subscription removes it.
Can I make hours-long ambience videos?
Yes, on the Studio plan. FlipLetters renders one loopable segment and assembles it into a multi-hour video losslessly, so a 3–4 hour ambience video renders in minutes rather than hours — something typical video editors struggle with on long timelines.
Can I upload my own audio track?
Yes, on the Studio plan — mux your own audio (rain, lo-fi, ambience beds) into a long-form video. You're responsible for having the rights to any audio you upload.
Can I post directly to TikTok?
Yes, from the Export panel on the Studio plan, once you connect your TikTok account. Vertical format only — TikTok's Content Posting API caps videos at 10 minutes.
What does the 'Generate with AI' template feature do?
Describe what you want in a sentence or two and Template Studio drafts a complete, editable design (text, colors, transitions, sound) using Google's Gemini model, running server-side through Vertex AI. You can then edit anything it produces before exporting.
What happens to images I upload?
Image-to-flap-grid conversion happens entirely in your browser — an uploaded image isn't sent to FlipLetters' servers for that step. If a project is rendered in the cloud, the relevant text/image data is transmitted solely to produce your video. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
Can I sell my own templates on FlipLetters?
You can save designs, publish free templates to the public gallery today, and set up Stripe payouts in My Template Store in preparation for paid listings. Paid template checkout is launching in a follow-up phase — pricing and marketplace availability toggles are ready, but purchase isn't live yet.
How does seller payout verification work?
Through Stripe Connect's own hosted onboarding — Stripe collects your identity and bank details directly and decides when your account is verified. FlipLetters never sees or stores that information, only whether Stripe has marked your account ready for payouts.
Can I cancel a subscription?
Yes, anytime — manage or cancel from the receipt email Stripe sends after checkout, or email [email protected].
